As it is currently October the 3rd and it is unofficially Mean Girls day I thought it would be a great idea to make a list of some of my favourite chick flicks! These are in no paticular order, if I tried to put them in an order of which I liked most I would be here forever!
1. Mean Girls - Let's start off with the film that inspired this blog post. I absolutely love Mean Girls, if you didn't know it's about a girl named Cady who moves to an American high school and finds herself plotting against the 'mean girls' by becoming friends with them and destroying them from the inside. It's such a great movie and it's always on my go to list when I want to watch a girly film.
2. 10 Things I Hate About You - This is one of my favourite films in the world. I found out about it when I was around 15 and I've seen it so many times since then I could probably recite the whole thing. It's basically about a girl called Kat who has suddenly caught the attention of bad boy Patrick. This is because Kat has a younger sister and she can't date until Kat does. So the new boy in school pays Patrick to date Kat. It's such a feel good movie and it's so cute and I actually want to watch it right now.
3. Dirty Dancing - This has been my mum's favourite film for as long as I can remember. I first saw it with her when I was younger, I didn't really understand much of it but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Fast forward a few years and I watched it again with her and I loved it. It's about a girl called Baby who goes to a summer resort with her family. She them gets sucked into the dancing world when the dancing instructor Johnny needs a new dancing partner. This is such a famous film that I really shouldn't even be giving you all a summary!
4. Love, Rosie - Now this is a less popular one and I only watched it last year. It's about the journey of two best friends Rosie and Alex. On Rosie's 18th birthday they share a moment but they were drunk and agree to forget about it. With Alex still having feelings for Rosie they carry on as best friends but that all changes when Alex moves to America and Rosie finds out she is pregnant from a one night stand. The film then follows their story throughout their lives. I really recommended watching this movie if you haven't already. It's cute, it's British and it's got Sam Claflin in it, what more could you need.
5. The Notebook - No Chick-Flick list can be complete without having The Notebook on it. It follows the love story of Noah and Allie. The film opens up in a nursing home with a man called Duke reading a story to another patient, this follows through the whole movie. Noah and Allie are from two different ends of the spectrum. Allie is rich and Noah isn't, but that doesn't stop their love for each other despite Allie's parents disapproval of their relationship. Although their relationship does seem to end when Noah gets called to serve in the war. I first watched this movie at 2 o'clock in the morning when I couldn't sleep and that was the best decision I've ever made.
6. The Duff - This probably won't be a favourite of mine forever, but as I've recently watched it and it's still fresh in my mind it's still one of my favourite movies of this year. The Duff stands for Designated Ugly Fat Friend. And that's what the main character Bianca is labelled as, she tries to transform herself so she looks like her better looking friends with the help of the popular guy (and former best friend and next door neighbour) Wesley. I adore this movie so much, it doesn't try too hard to be a great movie and I think that's what I love most about it.
There are so many more that I know I can watch over and over but I don't think I'll be able to stop if I carry on! I used to say my favourite genre was horror when I got asked back in college. But I lied to myself, it's definitely chick flicks and rom coms and anything to do with a feel good, love story.
