I binge watch TV shows, it's something everybody knows about me. I can't find it in me to watch maybe one episode a night, I'm the type of person who will stay up until the early hours of the morning go get my fix of the series I'm watching.
My recent obsession has been Prison Break, it's taken me just under two weeks to watch all four seasons. If you do the math then that's approximately five a day, now in reality that's probably a bad thing and you're all going to tell me to get a life, but in my mind I could have done it in a week if I wasnt working all the time. (Gotta get that overtime to pay for my holiday though!)
I started watching Prison Break because I became a fan of Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell after their appearances in The Flash and Legends Of Tomorrow. I liked their dynamic together and I thought I would give this Prison Break show a chance. Plus in all honesty I was looking for a new TV show to binge and I was kind of falling in love with Wentworth Miller, he's so pretty.
So, what's it about? From here on out there will contain minor spoilers.
Prison Break is about a man named Michael Scofield who's brother Lincoln Burrows has been wrongly imprisoned for killing the Vice President's brother. After all the appeals have been refused, Michael incarcerates himself in the high security prison to break out his innocent brother who has only a month left to live before he faces the electric chair. The first season is set in Fox River Prison where Michael meets other inmates who are imperative to his plan to escape and then disappear for good. While on the outside there are a team of lawyers who are doing everything in their power to try and prove that Lincoln didn't do it, but this all doesn't go to plan as the people who set Lincoln up named 'The Company' will do anything to keep Lincoln in prison.
Season 2 sets off where season 1 ended, Michael, Lincoln and six others have escaped Fox River and they're on the run from the authorities. They had a plane on standby so they could safely make it to Mexico but that fell through, so they must find another way there without getting arrested, leading to a massive manhunt. Most of the Fox River Eight go their separate ways in this season, occasionally meeting up when they are in need of each other. The second half of the season focuses more on The Company, when Michael and Lincoln find out some shocking news they try to use it to their advantage to get their freedom. Meanwhile The Company have hired an FBI agent called Alexander Mahone to find and kill each and every one of the Fox River Eight.
Season 3 is the shortest season out of all 4 with only 13 episodes, in this season Michael finds himself incarcerated in yet another prison, and he faces another prison escape. This time the prison Sona, located in Panama is the most dangerous prison in the world, the inmates run it because the guards won't even go inside the prison gates due to a riot the year before. While Michael would have been happy to wait it out in Sona until his sentence was up, The Company had other ideas. They kidnap Michael's girlfriend Sara and Lincoln's son LJ and threaten to kill them both if Michael doesn't break out one of the other inmates; James Whistler. But James is nowhere to be seen and Michael has only one week to get them both out.
Season 4 is set a couple of months after, Michael and the team are recruited by Homeland Security to bring down the company once and for all, in return they will all receive their freedom. To do this all they need to do is find Scylla; A card which is The Company's 'little black book'. But they face a problem as they find out there are actually six of them not one and the cards are only keys to get Scylla which is a hard drive that is protected with the highest security. These keys are all placed in the safe hands of six different company members. While all of this is happening Michael has been suffering with nosebleeds, something he hadn't had since he was thirteen years old, it is later revealed that his mother had the same condition and she died from a brain tumour at the age of 31, the same age Michael is now.
If I had to choose I would say that season 1 was my favourite out of all 4. I loved the amount of planning that Michael put into breaking Lincoln out of jail, he spent months planning every single detail and he even went to the extent of tattooing his whole upper body with the blueprints of the building and everything he would need to escape out of the prison and stay off the radar after it. I know he's only a fictional character but I found him to be really, really clever and I was amazed with Wentworths portrayal of him.
I'm really looking forward to the revival next year!
